On 17 August 2026, construction began on a new research facility for ADAS testing technology at MAHA’s headquarters in Haldenwang. MAHA is investing more than 1 million euros in the development of ADAS testing solutions for trucks and buses. Following MAST 2.0 for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, this marks the next step towards enabling the testing of driver assistance systems across all vehicle classes.
Haldenwang, 20th August 2026. When the excavators move onto the MAHA premises, it marks the start of more than just a construction project: the new research facility will be dedicated to developing testing technology for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in heavy-duty commercial vehicles. In doing so, the manufacturer of vehicle testing and lifting technology is strategically expanding its research infrastructure at its Bavarian headquarters in an area that will be crucial to road safety in the years ahead.
From passenger cars to heavy-duty commercial vehicles
With MAST 2.0, MAHA has developed a test system for testing ADAS functions in passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. The first installation in Germany will go into operation at TÜV SÜD in Ulm in October 2026. At Automechanika 2026 (8 to 12 September, Frankfurt), MAHA will present the system to an international trade audience. The new research facility will now provide the foundation for transferring this technology to trucks and buses – vehicle classes with their own specific requirements in terms of dimensions, sensor technology and testing procedures.
Why ADAS testing for heavy commercial vehicles is becoming increasingly important
Automatic emergency braking systems, lane-keeping systems and turning assistance systems are becoming increasingly standard in modern commercial vehicles and, in some cases, are required by law. However, it is currently only possible to determine to a limited extent during periodic vehicle inspections whether these safety-critical systems continue to function reliably throughout a vehicle’s entire service life. This is precisely where the development work in the new research facility comes in.
“We see the development of an ADAS test system for heavy commercial vehicles as an important milestone in our company’s history. We are convinced that ADAS systems must also be tested in this vehicle segment,” says Dr Peter Geigle, CEO of the MAHA Group.
Investment in the Haldenwang site
The new research facility is being built at MAHA’s headquarters in Haldenwang. With the start of construction, MAHA is underlining the investment strategy announced during its record-breaking 2025/26 financial year: investing in the Haldenwang site, in new products, and in its own research and development activities.
